The recent Gmail and Yahoo Inbox sender requirements have made getting an email delivered to your recipient’s Inbox more difficult. To improve your odds of your email landing in the Inbox, follow these simple steps:
1. Navigate your browser to mail-tester.com
Mail Tester provides a nice little service that enables you to send an email to a unique email address at a mail-tester.com domain. Mail Tester will score your email for deliverability.
Mail Tester uses a hosted version of Spam Assassin to score your email. Spam Assassin is an open-source Apache Project that enables System Administrators to score emails to filter out Spam. Your score will be out of 10 points, but more importantly, your results will tell you how to improve your score.
2. Copy the unique email address that Mail Tester provides
When you navigate to Mail Tester, they’ll generate a unique email address. Click on the Copy button next to the highlighted email address below. Don’t close your Mail Tester browser window. We’ll return to this window later.
3. Send an email to the unique Mail Tester email address that you copied
Open an email client that has access to the domain that you want to send from. If you’re using Gmail to send the email, then you may need to configure a Gmail alias. Send the email from the email address that you’re going to send the email campaign from.
If you’re using SendGrid, then the test email send functionality will look like the screens below.
4. Click on the “Then check your score button” on Mail Tester.
After you’ve sent the email to the unique Mail Tester email, navigate to the Mail Tester window that you left open and click on the “Then check your score button.”
